International Travel Assistance Fund

The Office of International Affairs has announced that it is time to submit applications for the International Travel Assistance Fund for 2017. As they note at their website, "International Affairs supports faculty and staff through an annual fund that provides $1,000 travel awards to encourage global engagement.

My office will match up to $1000 any college faculty member who applies for and receives this funding.

Laboratory for Analytic Sciences Winter Symposium December 5

The Laboratory for Analytic Sciences (ncsu-las.org) invites you to attend its upcoming Winter Symposium on December 5th at the McKimmon Center.  This symposium will run from 8:30 - 5:00and will include technical presentations and panel discussions in the morning and a poster session with NC State faculty, students, and industry partners in the afternoon.

Centennial Campus partner, Intuitive Surgical, http://www.intuitivesurgical.com/ will be hosting an open house on October 25th 11a - 4p. They are the creators of Da Vinci robotic arm used in minimally invasive surgery and we are pleased to welcome them to Centennial Campus!

Chancellor’s Innovation Fund Call for Preproposals

Dear Colleagues,

The Office of Technology Commercialization and New Ventures is now accepting pre-proposal submissions for the next funding cycle of the Chancellor’s Innovation Fund (CIF).  

CIF awards of up to $75,000 are designed to support short-term (one year or less) commercially-focused research projects. Proposed CIF projects ideally incorporate study endpoints designed to directly address license-enabling milestones required by potential licensees.  Anticipated outcomes include new licensing opportunities or the launch of a new university startup company.

RTI University Scholars Program

The RTI University Scholars Program provides support—one-half of each Scholar’s salary and fringe—for distinguished academic researchers to spend scholarly leave time at RTI International, actively collaborating with RTI experts. Applications are due 1/9/17.

Data management support from the NCSU Libraries

More and more funding agencies require researchers to include data management plans with their grant proposals and share articles and data resulting from funded research.

In addition to the broad menu of research consultation, visualization support, and research workshops, the NCSU Libraries provides free guidance to NC State faculty, staff, post-docs, and students on creating and implementing data management plans and meeting public access compliance requirements.  Our consultation includes advice on data types and standards for describing data, options for short-term storage and long-term preservation, and considerations for sharing research outputs and public access compliance.
