Advancing Health Literacy to Enhance Equitable Community Responses to COVID-19

The HHS Office of Minority Health (OMH) anticipates funding for an initiative to demonstrate the effectiveness of local “grassroots” efforts to improve the access, use and outcomes of vaccination, testing, contact tracing and health behaviors related to COVID-19 among racial and ethnic minority populations, including those in rural communities. OMH expects projects funded through this initiative to: 1) use evidence-based, culturally and linguistically appropriate health literacy strategies to increase health literacy for COVID-19 testing, contact tracing, vaccination and/or other mitigation measures (e.g., public health prevention practices); and 2) document participation in COVID-19 testing, contact tracing, vaccination and/or other mitigation measures (e.g., public health prevention practices). This program will align with, but not duplicate, existing federal efforts to disseminate resources for COVID-19 responses.  

National Endowment for the Arts: Creative Writing Fellowships

The National Endowment for the Arts Literature Fellowships program offers $25,000 grants in prose (fiction and creative nonfiction) and poetry to published creative writers that enable recipients to set aside time for writing, research, travel, and general career advancement. Applications are reviewed through an anonymous process in which the criteria for review are the artistic excellence and artistic merit of the submitted manuscript. Through this program, the Arts Endowment seeks to sustain and nurture a diverse range of creative writers at various stages of their careers and to continue to expand the portfolio of American art.

NC State Impact Scholars

 The Strengthening The Impact of Research (STIR) program seeks to enhance NC State’s capacity to design and conduct research with broad impacts on society by creating and supporting the first cohort of NC State Impact Scholars.

This group of 10-12 selected Impact Scholars will attend a series of five, 90-minute workshops in Spring 2021 to strengthen their capacity to create innovative research impacts on society and write more competitive grant proposals. Impact Scholars will also design and implement a project of their own, and conduct a Research Impacts workshop in their department. With support from the Office of Outreach and Engagement, Impact Scholars will receive $1,000 to support their project expenses.

Upcoming Deadline for NC Sea Grant Coastal Research (January 11, 2021)

The deadline is approaching for the first step in North Carolina Sea Grant’s 2022-2024 proposal process for applied research to address problems affecting coastal ecosystems, economies, and communities. 

North Carolina Sea Grant uses a two-step process for its core funding. Initially, researchers submit preproposals that outline the research topic, its need within the state, the approach and strategy, and the team to be assembled. The second step, known as full proposals, will take place later this year. A preproposal is required before a full proposal can be submitted for the final competitive review.

Russell Sage Foundation Program on Social, Political and Economic Inequality (short deadline!)

The Russell Sage Foundation will give high priority over the next several years to rigorous social science research that investigates the immediate and long-term social, political, economic, and psychological consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States. Of particular interest is research on the effects of the crisis on vulnerable populations and how they have been impacted by both the increased inequalities of the last several decades and the differential effects of federal, state, and local policies implemented in response to the pandemic.

Through fellowships to published translators, the National Endowment for the Arts (Arts Endowment) supports projects for the translation of specific works of prose, poetry, or drama from other languages into English. The work to be translated should be of interest for its literary excellence and value. During Cybersecurity Awareness Month (CSAM) in October, the NC State Office of Information Technology, along with the NC State Department of Computer Science, ePartners Program, LabCorp, and MetLife, is co-sponsoring “Protect the Pack: You are Security” to provide you with valuable yet simple advice to protect your personal and work-related data and devices. 

This year’s event will highlight a four-member panel of Google Security experts on Wednesday, Oct. 21 who will answer questions about the type of content that should be stored in Google Drive and the level of security the university’s G Suite environment provides. This panel discussion will be held at 2 p.m. online and is open to the novice and the experienced NC State G Suite user. Digital Humanities Advancement Grants

Digital Humanities Advancement Grants (DHAG) support innovative, experimental, and/or computationally challenging projects at different stages throughout their lifecycles, from early start-up phases through implementation and sustainability. Experimentation, reuse, and extensibility are hallmarks of this program, leading to innovative work that can scale to enhance scholarly research, teaching, and public programming in the humanities.  Proposals are welcome for digital initiatives in any area of the humanities.

Collaborative Research Program

The Collaborative Research program aims to advance humanistic knowledge through sustained collaboration between two or more scholars. Collaborators may be drawn from a single institution or several institutions across the United States; up to half of the collaborators may be based outside of the U.S. The program encourages projects that propose diverse approaches to topics, incorporate multiple points of view, and explore new avenues of inquiry in the humanities.

National Science Foundation SBE Postdoctoral Research Fellowships

SBE Postdoctoral Research Fellowships  (SPRF) - The Directorate for Social, Behavioral and Economic Sciences (SBE) offers Postdoctoral Research Fellowships to encourage independence early in the Fellow's career through supporting his or her research and training goals. The research and training plan of each Fellowship must address important scientific questions within the scope of the SBE Directorate and the specific guidelines in this solicitation. The SPRF program offers two tracks: (I) Fundamental Research in the SBE Sciences (SPRF-FR) and (II) Broadening Participation in the SBE Sciences (SPRF-BP).
