USAID Opportunities

I apologize for the short deadlines for submitting questions to USAID indicated in this posting; I only today received this. But the information is likely to be useful to anyone with international projects of interest to AID, even if you don't have the chance to submit your own question.

Unique USAID Funding Opportunity
Learn more about a draft request for applications (RFA) (http://universityengagement.usaidallnet.gov/sites/default/files/draft_rfa_for_commentl.pdf ) from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) that would support individual institutions or consortia of institutions in creating innovative solutions to ongoing development challenges.  Questions due today, January 19, 2012.

Successful applicants will bring creative, multi-disciplinary approaches to USAID’s development practice while engaging faculty, staff and student communities, and will become part of a networked set of centers that bring creative problem-solving, analysis and engagement to USAID’s core development practice. These centers will articulate development problems and identify, create and/or evaluate novel solutions.

USAID will fund two types of centers that will further knowledge of development and engage with a broad range of actors: ·

1. Consortium centers will be robust collaborative consortia of institutions of higher education and other non-profit or for-profit organizations that complement each other’s strengths and undertake efforts that a single entity or smaller network would find difficult to impossible to accomplish. All consortia will be strongly encouraged to include developing country institutions or research institutions. The consortia should provide greater value together through their interactions than as individual institutions.  NC State may submit only one proposal as the lead institution of a consortium.  Non-lead proposals are not limited.

2. Single institution centers will involve a single higher education institution.  NC State is limited to two single-institution proposals.

Anticipated Funding Amount:  $100 million over five years
Expected RFA Release:  Feb. 8, 2012
Application Deadline:  April 3, 2012
Questions submitted by 2:00 p.m. EST on Jan. 19, 2012, will be answered during the webinar on Jan. 24.
