Scholarship of Community Engagement Institute
Are you interested in exploring how to connect your scholarship to the community or to design effective projects in collaboration with community partners? Do you want to study how integrating service learning into your course can improve student learning outcomes? Are you interested to learn about research methods useful to conduct engaged scholarship? These are just a few of the topics that you could explore by attending the Office of Faculty Development’s Scholarship of Community Engagement Institute. Applications are available now through April 24.
Participants will gain knowledge in the unique aspects of conducting research on community engagement as well as hear from experienced engagement researchers. They will begin work on their Scholarship of Community Engagement projects and receive feedback from their fellow participants as well as session leaders.
Participants will attend (virtually or in-person) support sessions throughout the 2017-18 academic year with the expectation that their experience will culminate with presenting their research at the Office of Faculty Development’s Teaching and Learning Symposium. Overall, participants will learn how to make Community Engagement research a viable part of their scholarship, and how to locate opportunities for funding, conferences, and publishing.
To apply for the Engagement Institute please fill out an application form at go.ncsu.edu/ engagementinstitute. Applications will close at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, April 24. Acceptance decisions will be sent by Friday, May 5.
If you wish to participate, please hold the following dates and times on your calendar:
- Tuesday, May 16, 9:00 a.m - 5:00 p.m.
- Thursday, May 18, 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
- A half-day session on EITHER Thursday, August 10 OR Friday, August 25 (to be determined during the Institute)
OFD’s expectation is that participants will attend all sessions in their entirety. Pending availability of state funds, participants will receive a mini-grant that can be used to support their research projects.
