NC State’s Office of Research, Innovation and Economic Development (ORIED) and the Kenan Institute for Engineering, Technology & Science (KIETS) established the Strategic Research Initiative in 2010, which is now entitled Research and Innovation Seed Funding (RISF). This program is designed to assist NC State researchers in developing innovative interdisciplinary programs that have strong potential for significant future support from government agencies, corporations, industrial consortia, or foundations.

The Non-laboratory Scholarship/Research Support Program is a two-tiered program aimed at supporting research/scholarship not driven by instrument-dependent research. $100,000 has been set aside to support both small and large purchases of resources for research and scholarly needs.

The Laboratory Research Equipment Program is designed to support the acquisition, repair and/or replacement of shared equipment that may be located and maintained in NC State service centers, departments, colleges, centers/institutes, etc. $100,000 has been set aside to support multiple purchases across campus.
