The William T. Grant Foundation has posted its solicitation for the 2018 Scholars Awards. See http://wtgrantfoundation.org/grants/william-t-grant-scholars-program
The online application opens on April 23. All applications must be received by July 5, 2018, at 5 pm.
The foundation allows our college to nominate one exceptionally qualified candidate for this award. With this in mind, while the foundation deadline is July 5, the college's internal deadline for this program will be May 1. This will provide the successful applicant with plenty of time to work with our office to prepare a competitive proposal.
If you are interested in this program, please provide a short (no more than two pages) letter explaining what you will propose to the W.T. Grant Foundation, as well as a copy of your c.v. You may, if you wish, include a letter from a department head or colleague explaining why you would be an excellent candidate for this funding, although this is not required. Send these materials to tabirkla@ncsu.edu
Please direct any questions to Tom Birkland, Associate Dean for Research and Engagement, at tabirkla@ncsu.edu
The foundation's announcement of this program states that
"The William T. Grant Scholars Program supports career development for promising early-career researchers. The program funds five-year research and mentoring plans that significantly expand junior researchers’ expertise in new disciplines, methods, and content areas. We recognize that early-career researchers are rarely given incentives or support to take such risks, so this award includes a mentoring component, as well as an emphasis on community and collaboration.
"Scholars Program applicants should have a track record of conducting high-quality research and an interest in pursuing a significant shift in their trajectories as researchers. Proposed research plans must address questions of policy and practice that are relevant to the Foundation’s focus areas."
