What does equity mean to you and to your research? The deans of the colleges of Humanities and Social Sciences, Education, Engineering, Agriculture and Life Sciences, Design, Natural Resources, Sciences, Veterinary Medicine, Poole College of Management, Wilson College of Textiles, the Graduate School, and the Division of Academic and Student Affairs in collaboration with the university’s Office for Institutional Equity and Diversity, the Office of Research and Innovation and Research Leadership Academy are pleased to announce the inaugural Equity Research Symposium.
The purpose of this symposium is to bring together researchers from across NC State’s campus to share and catalyze new cutting-edge, equity-focused and equity-relevant research. Students, faculty, postdocs and staff are eligible to make presentations on their research. A keynote address will be delivered by Raj Chetty, William A. Ackman Professor of Economics at Harvard University and Director of Opportunity Insights, whose work focuses on equity, race, and mobility in the United States.
We encourage researchers to submit presentation proposals that address how equity informs the following:
framing of research (e.g., theories, frameworks)
focus of research (e.g., environmental justice, systemic inequities)
implementation of research (e.g., research methods, participants)
preparation of researchers
application to practice (e.g., institutions, policies, practitioners)
conduct and implementation of research (e.g., research teams, roles, management)
impact of research (broader impacts)
The symposium will engage participants in contemplating the question “what does equity mean to me?” throughout the day and will feature panel presentations, lightning presentations, poster presentations, and round table discussions. Breakfast, lunch, and a reception will be provided.
