Nominations for the University Graduate Student Research Symposium, due on January 16

Colleagues, this was sent to the DGPs, but it's worth all of us knowing about, because many of us have worked closely with graduate students on research projects. Please suggest possible nominees to your DGPs.

NOMINATION DEADLINE: January 16, 2015
****************************************

Directors of Graduate Programs,

This is a reminder that the Tenth Annual NC State University Graduate Student Research Symposium will be held in the McKimmon Center on Wednesday, March 25, 2015 from 1:00 pm - 5:30 pm. The goals of the Symposium are to showcase the outstanding quality and diversity of graduate-level research at NC State, in addition to providing students with the opportunity to practice their communication skills with those outside of their discipline.  Last year, there were over 200 poster presentations, representing 57 graduate programs from every college.

Each Director of Graduate Programs is invited to nominate up to four graduate students (either master's or doctoral) to represent their graduate program.  Posters will be judged by faculty in the academic areas that are represented at the symposium and monetary awards for the winners in each academic area will be provided.

Although further information is available at www.ncsu.edu/grad/research/symposium.html, there are a few important details to highlight: 1) Posters must be a maximum of 4' high x 6' wide. Pushpins will be provided. 2) Students may use posters that they have already presented at another conference, if they choose to do so. 3) The UGSA and Graduate School do not have funds available to cover poster printing costs. Both the production of the poster and associated costs are the responsibility of the presenters.

There is not a formal nomination form to complete. Directors of Graduate Programs should e-mail the names and e-mail addresses of their nominees to my attention at david_shafer@ncsu.edu by January 16, 2015. We will then contact the students you nominate with further instructions on submitting their abstracts by the February 6th deadline.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at the above e-mail address, or at 515-4462.

I hope to see you and your students on March 25th!

Dave
