Applications Open for Scholarship of Community Engagement Institute

Are you interested in exploring how to connect your scholarship to the community or to design effective projects in collaboration with community partners? Do you want to study how integrating service learning into your course can improve student learning outcomes? Are you interested to learn about research methods useful to conduct engaged scholarship? These are just a few of the topics that you could explore by attending the Office of Faculty Development’s Scholarship of Community Engagement Institute.

Building upon OFD’s successful pilot institute last year, the Scholarship of Community Engagement Institute will take place over three days during Spring Break 2016: Monday, March 7th, Wednesday, March 9th, and Friday, March 11th. Participants will gain knowledge in the unique aspects of conducting research on community engagement as well as hear from experienced engagement researchers. They will begin work on their Scholarship of Community Engagement projects and receive feedback from their fellow participants as well as session leaders.

Participants will attend four virtual check-in meetings in 2016-17 with the expectation that they will present their research at the 2017 Office of Faculty Development Teaching and Learning Symposium.

To apply for the Engagement Institute please fill out an application form at go.ncsu.edu/engagementinstitute. Applications will close at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 17th

If you wish to participate, please hold the following dates and times on your calendar:
  • March 7th, 9:00-5:00 p.m.
  • March 9th, 9:00-5:00 p.m.
  • March 11th, 9:00-3:00 p.m.
OFD’s expectation is that participants will attend all sessions in their entirety. Pending availability of state funds, participants will receive a mini-grant that can be used to support their research projects. Please refer questions to Jonathan Holloway (jphollow@ncsu.edu).
