COVID-19 Research Funding Resources

The university's Research Development Office (RDO) is maintaining a list of funding opportunities for research on COVID-19. Many of these opportunities involve research of potential interest to humanists and social scientists. For example:

  • the potential for impact on one or more of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and/or:
  • a focus on the COVID-19 global pandemic and related impacts

  • The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation has announced its program "Pioneering Ideas: Exploring the Future to Build a Culture of Health. This program "seeks proposals that are primed to influence health equity in the future. The foundation is interested in ideas that address any of these four areas of focus: Future of Evidence; Future of Social Interaction; Future of Food; Future of Work. Additionally, the foundation welcomes ideas that might fall outside of these four focus areas, but which offer unique approaches to advancing health equity and progress toward a Culture of Health.  It is at your discretion whether you propose a project related to the COVID-19 pandemic directly or indirectly.
  • Data.org has announced its Inclusive Growth and Recovery Challenge, "an open call for breakthrough ideas that harness the power of data science to help people and communities thrive especially in the wake of COVID-19’s economic impact. Deadline: 7/17/2020
  • The National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) is seeking applications for its Rural Health and Safety Education program. "NIFA requests applications to address the needs of rural Americans by providing individual and family health education programs. The aim is to support the utilization of telehealth, telemedicine, and distance learning strategies for education and training in minority rural communities related to opioids or preventing spread of SARS-CoV-2 and in mitigating infection and transmission of SARS-CoV2. The deadline is 7/1/2020
These are just a few examples of the opportunities that are opening for researchers to tackle the range of questions and problems related to the COVID pandemic. I encourage you to visit the RDO's COVID opportunities page. If you are interested in applying for any of these opportunities, my office will, as always, be available to help you prepare your proposals. If you'd like to discuss your ideas for projects, my (virtual) door is always open, so call or email me and we can talk!
