COVID-19: Multiple Funding Opportunities at NIH

After the jump, I list several COVID-related funding opportunities at NIH that may be of particular interest to social and behavioral scientists. Please let me know if you are interested in pursuing any of these opportunities.

The purpose of this FOA is to advance research on the impact of SARS-CoV-2 and associated mitigation efforts on individual, family, and community behavior and on how subsequent economic disruption affects health-related outcomes, with close attention to underserved and vulnerable populations. To address these questions, this FOA aims to form a research consortium to access, extract, integrate, share, and analyze existing data from various sources with broad population coverage including underserved and vulnerable populations.

Application due date:  11/8/2021

Notice of Special Interest (NOSI): Aging-Relevant Behavioral and Social Research on Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)

The National Institute of Aging is issuing this Notice of Special Interest (NOSI) to highlight the continuing need for behavioral, psychological, social, and economic research on SARS-CoV-2 and coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). There is a need for ongoing research on the longer-term effects of COVID-19 on the health and well-being of those infected, those caring for the sick, and many others whose lives were disrupted by the pandemic and its associated mitigation and prevention strategies. Beyond effects on individuals, this pandemic has brought about unprecedented social and economic disruption that is expected to have long-term and profound effects on the health of the population, particularly COVID-19 vulnerable groups including older adults. Interested PIs can apply through the Parent R01, R21, and R03 opportunities, as well as several NIA-specific funding opportunity announcements.

Application due dates: Multiple due dates through 5/8/23

Notice of Special Interest (NOSI): Promoting Vaccine Access, Acceptance and Uptake among Children, Adolescents, Pregnant and Lactating Women, and Persons with Disabilities

This NOSI encourages applications that address dimensions of access, acceptance and uptake of CDC-recommended vaccines among infants, children, adolescents, pregnant and lactating women, and persons with disabilities, especially among populations who are underserved or experience health disparities. Projects targeting access and uptake of vaccines against SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) will also be considered within scope for this NOSI.

Expiration date: 5/8/2024

Notice of Special Interest (NOSI): Social, Behavioral, and Economic Impact of COVID-19 in Underserved and Vulnerable Populations

While research related to the direct clinical effects of COVID-19 are supported by other funding opportunities, there are additional urgent public health needs, particularly in populations who experience health disparities and in vulnerable populations. The purpose of this Notice is to 1) emphasize the roles and impacts of interventions, particularly those under the umbrella of digital health, as well as community-engaged and multi-level interventions in healthcare settings to address access, reach, delivery, engagement, effectiveness, scalability, and sustainability of services that are utilized during and following the pandemic, and 2) encourage the leveraging of existing large-scale data sources with broad population coverage to improve prediction of various mitigation efforts (including vaccinations, masking, and physical distancing to inform the public health response) on transmission reduction and on social and economic impacts, and assess the downstream health and healthcare access effects, with an emphasis on underserved and vulnerable populations.

Application due date: Multiple dates through 9/8/2024
