NSF has a sustainability initiative, inviting collaboration across disciplines.  The PIRE program, which supports international collaboration, has a sustainability focus this year.  The opportunity demonstrates the commitment at NSF to problem-centered, cross-disciplinary work.http://www.nsf.gov/funding/pgm_summ.jsp?pims_id=504707  The RCN could also be particularly helpful for those who have ongoing research projects people wish to coordinate.  Some of our more junior colleagues might find the Fellows program especially appropriate.

PIRE Update

The PIRE (Program in International Research and Education) announcement posted earlier this month is in a state of some flux, with no full RFP having been issued. It's important to note that the PIRE program is a limited submission program, so only one team (I think) will be allowed to submit for NCSU. But Carol Ashcraft assures me that CHASS participation on one of the proposing teams would be very welcome. This just in from the folks at the Research Development Office. The next closest deadlines are September 20, 2011, September 15, 2012, and then September 15 annually thereafter. Of course, please contact the CHASS research office with any questions, or if you need assistance with preparing a proposal.
