Center for Human Health and the Environment- Request for Pilot Project Applications

NC State University’s Center for Human Heath and the Environment (CHHE) is announcing its request for applications (RFA) for pilot project proposals for Fall 2020.  Applications are due on September 28, 2020.  The earliest start date is mid-Dec. 2020 and CHHE expects to fund 6-8 projects. 

Due October 8: National Humanities Center Residential Fellowships

Each year, the National Humanities Center welcomes up to forty scholars from across the humanities and all over the world. During their time in residence, Fellows are given the freedom to work on their projects while benefiting from the exceptional services of the Center. Applicants must have a doctorate or equivalent scholarly credentials. Mid-career and senior scholars are encouraged to apply. Emerging scholars with a strong record of peer-reviewed work may also apply. In addition to scholars from all fields of the humanities, the Center accepts individuals from the natural and social sciences, the arts, the professions, and public life who are engaged in humanistic projects.

DUE Sept. 25: Non-laboratory Scholarship/Research Support Program (NSRP) Call for Proposals

NSRP

The NSRP is a program designed to support scholarship/research needs in disciplines not driven by instrument-dependent and lab-based research. Such disciplines may include but are not limited to social sciences, humanities, education, design, management, and libraries. These fields require other types of resources or infrastructure such as database access, survey instruments and panels, measurement tools, and travel to field sites and archives. In an effort to strengthen infrastructure and the overall research and scholarship enterprise, priority will be given in the NSRP program to proposals that support multiple NC State scholars and/or multiple projects at the university.

The Collaborative Research program aims to advance humanistic knowledge through sustained collaboration between two or more scholars. Collaborators may be drawn from a single institution or several institutions across the United States; up to half of the collaborators may be based outside of the U.S. The program encourages projects that propose diverse approaches to topics, incorporate multiple points of view, and explore new avenues of inquiry in the humanities for scholars and general audiences.  Note that updated guidelines for the upcoming application cycle will be posted closer to the deadline.  You may used the guidelines for the previous cycle to get a sense of what is involved in assembling an application.

North Carolina Humanities Council Community Engagement Grants

Community Engagement grants provide up to $3,500 to support the implementation of public humanities projects.  Formerly known as Grassroots Grants, typical expenses for this category include scholar stipends, scholar travel/meals/lodging, publicity, exhibit fabrication, and certain other expenses connected with the implementation of a public humanities engagement project of limited scope. Project formats can include, but are not limited to, lecture/discussion series, exhibitions, presentations and workshops. The Council encourages programs which serve educators, veterans, and underserved communities in North Carolina.

J.M. Kaplan Fund Furthermore Grants in Publishing

Furthermore grants assist nonfiction books having to do with art, architecture, and design; cultural history, the city, and related public issues; and conservation and preservation. The fund is looking for work that appeals to an informed general audience, gives evidence of high standards in editing, design, and production, and promises a reasonable shelf life. The grants, ranging roughly from $1,500 to a maximum of $15,000, are awarded twice annually with application deadlines of March 1 and September 1. Funds apply to such specific publication components as writing, research, editing, indexing, design, illustration, photography, and printing and binding.

Documentary Filmmakers: Independent Television Service (ITVS) Open Call

Independent Television Service (ITVS) Open Call

ITVS is looking for exceptional storytelling that’s in line with their mission: stories that take risks, tackle important issues, address the needs of underserved audiences, and are seldom seen in public media. ITVS will partner with applicants to complete production for a standalone broadcast length documentary to air on public television. The documentary can be on any subject, viewpoint or style as long as it is in active production already, as evidenced via a ten to fifteen minute work in progress sample.

The DISES Program supports research projects that advance basic scientific understanding of integrated socio-environmental systems and the complex interactions (dynamics, processes, and feedbacks) within and among the environmental (biological, physical and chemical) and human ("socio") (economic, social, political, or behavioral) components of such a system.

NEH Humanities Connections Planning Grants

NEH Humanities Connections Planning Grants

The Humanities Connections program seeks to expand the role of the humanities in undergraduate education at two- and four-year institutions. Awards will support innovative curricular approaches that foster productive partnerships among humanities faculty and their counterparts in the social and natural sciences and in pre-service or professional programs (such as business, engineering, health sciences, law, computer science, and other technology-driven fields), in order to encourage and develop new integrative learning opportunities for students.

Our Town is the National Endowment for the Arts’ creative placemaking grants program. Through project-based funding, NEA supports projects that integrate arts, culture, and design activities into efforts that strengthen communities by advancing local economic, physical, and/or social outcomes. Successful Our Town projects ultimately lay the groundwork for systemic changes that sustain the integration of arts, culture, and design into local strategies for strengthening communities.

University Global Partnership Network (UGPN) Research Collaboration Fund 2020

The University Global Partnership Network (UGPN) is pleased to announce the Research Collaboration Fund (RCF) call for proposals 2020.

The UGPN exists to create a foundation for international collaboration enabling academics and students from world-leading universities to work together on issues of global importance. Its members are North Carolina State University (NC State), the Universidade de São Paulo (USP), the University of Surrey (UOS) and the University of Wollongong (UOW).

Our Town is the National Endowment for the Arts’ creative placemaking grants program. Through project-based funding, NEA supports projects that integrate arts, culture, and design activities into efforts that strengthen communities by advancing local economic, physical, and/or social outcomes. Successful Our Town projects ultimately lay the groundwork for systemic changes that sustain the integration of arts, culture, and design into local strategies for strengthening communities. These projects require a partnership between a local government entity and nonprofit organization, one of which must be a cultural organization; and should engage in partnership with other sectors (such as agriculture and food, economic development, education and youth, environment and energy, health, housing, public safety, transportation, and workforce development). Matching grants range from $25,000 to $200,000, with a minimum cost share/match equal to the grant amount.
