Important: Calls for Nominations and Deadlines, Research and Extension Awards

Colleagues, Dara Leeder recently sent out an announcement about the various awards for excellence awarded by the college, many of which are also submitted for consideration for University-wide awards. Following the jump, here's details of the of all these award programs.

If you would like to nominate someone for an award related to research or extension, please contact that individual directly, or let me know at tom_birkland@ncsu.edu. In the memo below, I highlight the research and extension awards where my office can be of help. Please note that many of these awards recognize excellence across research, teaching, service, and extension and engagement.

These awards are important, and in some years we've not nominated as many people as we could for some awards. Please consider nominating yourself or a colleague! Let me know how I can help.--Tom

The deadline for nominations from CHASS department heads is October 12, 2012.

This award is very competitive, as you might imagine.  Nominees must be members of the NCSU Academy of Outstanding Teachers, have an excellent record of scholarship, and meet other criteria explained on the BOG web site (above).

All that we ask you do in support of your nominee is write a two-page letter of support and submit that along with a two-page vita.

If your nominee is the person put forward by the college, a substantial portfolio must be constructed as detailed at: http://ofd.ncsu.edu/teaching-awards/board-of-governors/bog-submission-packet-guidelines/

Please note that October 12 is the internal CHASS deadline.  The university deadline is December 7.  Once we determine the CHASS nominee (probably late October), we will need those weeks until December 7 to prepare his or her BOG portfolio.

2) ALEXANDER QUARLES HOLLADAY MEDAL FOR EXCELLENCE

The purpose of this award is to recognize members of the faculty who, over their careers, have made outstanding contributions to the University through their achievements in research, teaching, or extension and engagement.  The number of nominations has declined in recent years, so nominations for this prestigious award are particularly encouraged.

The deadline for submitting new nominations AND updates to current nominees will be in December 2012.  Nominations do NOT go through CHASS, but should be submitted directly to the Office of Faculty Development.  Please refer to http://ofd.ncsu.edu/teaching-awards/holladay-medal-for-excellence/ for more details.
