The Office of Outreach and Engagement is pleased to announce the annual call for nominations for the Outstanding Extension Awards and Outstanding Engagement Awards. These awards are to encourage and recognize members of the faculty and EHRA staff who are nominated and selected by their respective colleagues, schools or units on campus for their outstanding contributions to extension and engagement.

Have you ever contemplated applying for a Fulbright? 
Please join us on November 19 from 2:00-3:15 for a Fulbright Informational Session. This panel discussion is geared towards faculty interested in applying for a range of Fulbright Fellowships, including Fulbright Specialist, Fulbright Chair, and Fulbright Scholar. Past recipients will discuss the application process and tips for preparing a competitive application, as well as highlight the benefits of teaching and conducting research abroad.

Research Funding Opportunity in Vietnam

The Foundation for Science and Technology Development of Ton Duc Thang University (FOSTECT)  in Vietnam has announced funding opportunities for basic and applied research in 2019. The deadline is October 30. Details are found after the jump.


Repositioning and Renaming in the NSF Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences Directorate

The announcement below describes the NSF's moves to rename and reposition the programs it funds in the Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences (SBE) Directorate. This is very important news for everyone in the social science community, and you are encouraged to read this information and share it with your colleagues. Let me know if you have any questions. I am pleased to say that this does not signal an intention on NSF's part to cancel or curtail the sorts of things that it currently funds, and these new program descriptions may well create new opportunities.

Q&A Session on "Foreign Influence" in the COI disclosure form

As many of you know from having completed your Conflict of Interest (COI) disclosure for this year, the form contains a new question about "foreign influence." There have been questions raised about this. Fortunately, the Office of Sponsored Programs and Regulatory Compliance (SPARCS) is sponsoring a Q&A session on this question.

The event is on Thursday, Sept. 26 at 10:00-11:00 a.m. in Room 3285 Talley Student Center

Travel support for community-engaged scholarship

The Office of Outreach and Engagement is offering stipends for participation in Community Engaged Scholarship activity.

The Office has a limited number of $500 scholarships available to attend any College or Department approved domestic conference or meeting to present or enhance faculty engaged scholarship. Faculty and staff can apply to be reimbursed for activities that occurred or will occur between July 1, 2019 - December 31, 2019. Preference will be given to faculty who have plans to submit conference proposals.

Special Funding Announcement - CHHE Pilot Project


The CHHE Pilot Project Program (PPP) fosters collaborations, increases interdisciplinary research and aids in the career development of early career investigators to advance environmental health research. The overarching goal of CHHE’s PPP is to provide support for research aimed at understanding the adverse impacts of environmental factors on human health and disease. The CHHE PPP encourages multidisciplinary/collaborative approaches and the use of CHHE’s cores and resources. The PPP has added a new program that supports community engaged projects. The earliest start date is mid-November 2019 and CHHE expects to fund 6-8 projects.

This is a reminder that the Non-laboratory Scholarship/Research Support Program (NSRP) has been announced for the 2019 cycle. This University-funded program has been a real help to our College's researchers.  Applications are due on Thursday, September 26, at 5 pm.
